How Amavida is Prepared to Support Residents Through Hurricane Milton
As Hurricane Milton approaches, our top priority at Amavida is the safety and well-being of our residents, staff, and their families. With a comprehensive plan in place and key safety features embedded in our design, Amavida is well-equipped to weather this storm and shelter in place and ensure a secure environment for all.
Strategic Location and Robust Construction
Amavida is built to withstand hurricanes with state-of-the-art infrastructure that maximizes safety during extreme weather conditions. Our hurricane shelter was built to withstand a category 5 hurricane. In addition:
- 15 Feet Above Sea Level: Our community’s elevation provides natural protection from flooding, which is a common concern during hurricanes.
- Hurricane-Impact Windows and Doors: All windows and doors throughout the community are impact-resistant, designed to withstand strong winds and flying debris, keeping residents safe indoors.
- Cinder Block Construction: Our buildings are made from durable cinder blocks, providing strength and stability that offer further protection from extreme weather conditions.
Reliable Power and Emergency Plans
To ensure that our community has uninterrupted power and essential services during the storm, we have several backup systems in place:
- Three Generators in the Main Building: These generators ensure that critical areas of the community, including common areas and emergency systems, remain operational during power outages.
- One Generator in the Oasis Building: Our Oasis building is also equipped with a generator, ensuring that residents and staff in that area are equally protected.
- 24-Hour Operations During and After the Storm: We have activated our emergency hurricane plan, which includes round-the-clock operations by our dedicated team. Staff will remain on-site during the storm and its aftermath to provide immediate assistance, maintain safety protocols, and respond to any needs that may arise.
Comprehensive Preparations
In addition to our structural safety measures, we have taken several steps to ensure our community is well-prepared to meet the demands of the approaching storm:
- Securing Additional Food and Water: We’ve placed extra orders for food, water, and medical supplies to ensure we are fully stocked for the days following the storm.
- Adequate Staffing Levels: Our “A-team” of staff members will be on-site throughout the storm, ensuring that essential services are maintained, and all residents receive the care they need.
- Shelter for Residents, Employees, and Families: We are prepared to provide safe shelter not only for our residents but also for our dedicated employees and their families, ensuring that everyone has a safe place to stay during this difficult time.
At Amavida, our priority is to create a secure and caring environment for everyone in our community. We remain committed to delivering the highest level of service and care during Hurricane Milton, and we are confident in our ability to support our residents and staff through every step of this storm.
